Montepulciano is a tremendous grape, full of plummy depth, but since it is mostly grown in some of Italy’s more rustic wine areas, too often the flavours are rustic too. But this one captures all the dark plum core of flavour but balances it with nice bright acid which allows the fruit to be juicy and mouth-watering even as the wine itself is pretty solid.
