North 9’er

Description

9er was brewed with a pared-down malt bill of barley and wheat, and a plethora of hops (and water and yeast, of course!). For this beer, North Brewing tried to achieve a slightly modern take on a west-coast double IPA, wanted the body to be drinkable despite the high ABV, and avoid the cloying sweetness/caramel flavours commonly associated with the style, while bringing in some more modern hop aromatics. It was hopped throughout the boil, whirlpool and dryhop with Columbus, Centennial, Amarillo, Sultana and Simcoe hops – again blending some classics with some newer varieties.

In the glass the beer pours a clear copper. The aroma is tropical fruit, peach, raspberry fruit leather, and cotton candy, and a hit of almond danish. Mouth feel is full and round up front with hop resin, balanced bitterness in the middle with a crisp off-dry finish. The malt and hop aromas translate in to flavours of stone fruit, honey, and biscuits. Refreshing and hides the 9% ABV well.
